New band video–check it out at Fun Videos!

This is the first music video I’ve done that goes beyond just a concert video. The basis is two different concerts and a bunch of other visuals that help to illustrate and create a mood for the story in the song.

FDA transparency petition

1 Comment »

August 25th, 2009 Posted 4:13 pm

I just signed a petition online requesting the FDA to be more transparent.

Go to the American Association for Health Freedom and check it out.

The petition was worded thus:

Re: Docket number FDA-2009-N-0247

This letter is to express my support for increased transparency at the FDA.

The FDA makes incredibly important decisions that directly impact consumer safety and well-being. The FDA also receives large sums of money from pharmaceutical companies, and to ensure impartiality and accountability, I want access to the information and sources of information that the FDA considers in approving a medical device or a new drug. Scanning documents and posting then in PDF format is an efficient and inexpensive means of disseminating such information.

There are a number of specific areas in which I believe complete transparency is warranted. To regain the trust of American citizens, we need the FDA to have full and open disclosure on the following:

(1) Any financial or business interests of decision-makers;

(2) Whether any of the information used by decision-makers was funded by a particular company (so consumers can assess the degree to which the information might be partial or tainted);

(3) All occurrences of “adverse events” in people who take FDA-approved drugs;

(4) The dollar amounts paid to FDA by pharmaceutical manufacturers in terms of user fees, application fees, etc., making all that information about the FDA budget available in one place; and

(5) The names of individuals within FDA who have received perks or bonuses from outside interests.

I also want access to the information which the FDA reviews in making a determination on a Citizen Petition. Several petitions have been granted in favor of pharmaceutical companies that appear to be counter to consumers’ interests. Full disclosure of the materials and studies used in the decision-making process provides an explanation to the public and is sound government policy.

FDA

In my opinion, the FDA has not been careful enough to ensure that pharmaceutical interests do not have undue influence on the decisions the FDA makes. That means the FDA is failing in its task to protect all Americans, not just those with the most influence, who can afford to back major studies (and skew the results if necessary to their profit-driven purposes). Seriously. The situation is way out of control. Transparency would bring at least a possibility of accountability, which should be the hallmark of a free people’s government.

Just discovered XtraNormal (strange as the name may be)…creates a rudimentary animation from a script. Kind of fun.  Check out “Orders from the Cage.”
